HISTORY

Built between 1894 and 1906, reconstructed and altered in 2008-2009, VILLA ANGELIQUE is listed as a historical building since 29th of March 1996.

This was one of the last houses to be built along the street in the 19th century. Its architecture is a sort of synthetis of all the artitic styles present in Creole architecture. These characteristics of the outside of the building were retained when it was restored. The interior was altered in order fo the hosue to be turned into a hotel.

The traditional decor features authentic furniture from the “Compagnie des Indes”. Without losing any of  their exotic authenticiy, the rooms and suites decorated with period furniture boast every modern comfort including walk-in shouwers and expresso machines.

The hotel’s walls are carpeted with lush green foliage, while the garden’s 200 plant species provide a showcase for the island’s native flora. The shaded terrace offers an irresistible invitation to savour the local cuisine.

VILLA ANGELIQUE is located in the most famous street of the city, “la rue de Paris”, previously called “rue Royale”. It is one of the last privately owned colonial houses and remains well known for its garden.
